He is a member of the City of Newport Wayfinding Committee and the Parking Study Advisory Committee and has been a member of both the Nye Beach Merchants Association and the City Center Newport Association. He was a member of the original Blue Ribbon Committee to study the future of the Lincoln County Fairgrounds, later becoming the chair of the Lincoln County Fair Board. Geltner has studied at the University of Illinois, Memphis State University, University of Denver, Oxford University, and the University of Oregon. He served as the Director of Alumni Relations and Records for the University of Illinois, Chicago Circle Campus. From 1977 to 1997 he was an administrative faculty member at the University of Oregon serving as the Associate Director of the Erb Memorial Union. Geltner) was the Executive Director of the San Juan Community Theatre. ​ Jo Maitland Geltner came to Lincoln County in 1999 to serve as the Executive Director of the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts.
